What is ReMashed?

ReMashed is a Web 2.0 Mash-up environment that allows you to personalize information of a community to your preferences. You tell ReMashed which Web 2.0 services you use and then you are able to define which contributions of other members you like and don't like. ReMashed will take your preferences into account to offer tailored recommendation for you. ReMashed can be used by communities to share their Web 2.0 information and further personalize the shared information.
Regarding multiple requests, we want to emphasis that ReMashed is only able to gather the public items of your Web2.0 services all data classified as private will be untouched. Thus, there is no reason to fear any privacy issues by using ReMashed.

How does it work?

ReMashed uses a technology called collaborative filtering to generate recommendations. It works by matching together users with similar opinions about different resources. Each member of the system has a 'neighborhood' of other like-minded users. Ratings and Tags from these neighbors are used to create personalized recommendations for you. At the moment a tag and a rating based recommendation technique is applied. A presentation of the system can be found [here] and recent experiences with the system are reported [here].

Who are you and why do you do ReMashed?

The Centre for Learning Sciences and Technologies (CELSTEC) is a Centre of Excellence in the fields of Learning Sciences and Technology Enhanced Learning. CELSTEC aims to research, develop and provide sustainable and evidence-based solutions for the advancement of learning at work, at school, at home and on the move.

This is accomplished by combining state-of-the-art research in the Learning Sciences with the innovative powers of new media, mobile devices and the Internet. New solutions are extensively tested in our laboratories and in real practice, following the principles of open innovation. With the portfolio of our activities we are able to help our partners to innovate and improve their education, training and professional development system in all essential aspects.

We built ReMashed as an experimental platform to study how recommendations in informal learning envrionments help real users with real needs. By using ReMashed and (optionally) participating in occasional studies, you can help us to improve recommendation strategies for various scenarios.
